The History
The van had two previous owners; the first a 'chippy', so not lugging great weights around, and the other bought it with the intention to turn it into a camper, but circumstances changed. Owned by myself for the last 5 years (although it was transferred from my wife’s name to mine) and has been an ongoing conversion whilst being used for holidays. Using it as a mobile tent gave us the opportunity to try out various layouts before deciding on the one that worked best. Unfortunately I have been diagnosed with a couple of conditions that mean we have to give up our camper for the 'practicality' of a motorhome. The van has a fully converted habitation area as can be seen in the images below, but I have had to break off with the recent news leaving the cab to be finished and the van in need of a respray. We have used the van for week/fortnight trips to the Lakes, Wales and Cornwall, amongst others, and it has never let us down. We are genuinely sad to see Trev go, but needs must.

The Mechanicals
Mechanically the van is very sound. The engine, gearbox and clutch are all excellent. Starts on the first turn of the key instantly whatever the weather, even after standing for 3 months. One of the things that drew me to the van in the first place was its low (for a T4) milage and that has paid dividends. Mechanical work undertaken in the last 4,000 miles includes:

| New ignition key and door locks all round (matching numbers) |

No oil leaks. On the trips mentioned on the page, the van is returning 38mpg, 4 over VW's official figure!

T4s are now over twenty years old (most have had a harder life than this one) and there are going to be things that need doing occasionally, beats a T2 by a long way in that department and a lot less prone to rusting. There are advisories fom the MOT as given below and I have included the discussions that I had with my mechanic regarding these. I will say I have known my mechanic for years as he has looked after a number of classic vehicles (never let me down) and have complete faith in him. He does have a very high reputation in the South Warks. area.

| I asked about replacing / cleaning them up. "It is only surface corrosion, would be a waste of money to replace them. Why clean them up, the grease actually protects them? They have highlighted it because they cannot actually see the pipe under the grease, but there isn't a problem". They have been an advisory since the MOT changed (2018), I think its safe to say there isn't a problem. |

| Slight play, with plenty of miles left in them yet. A minor and cheap job when they do need doing and easiest to tie in with a service. |

| The comments of my mechanic “Harsh and slightly ridiculous. They are new discs with the lightest of wear. It’s only been highlighted because the pads required replacing”. He’s absolutely correct, I had the wheels off to check for myself after this advisory. They are showing the lightest signs of use and there is a good number of years before they will need replacing. You can view the condition of the discs easily through the holes in the wheels should you have any doubt. |
The van still has its original jack but, please, under no circumstances should it be used. Anybody who uses an original T4 jack must have a death wish.

The Exterior

The front offside wheelarch did have some corrosion when I first had the van. This was cleaned up and treated before being painted with a durable paint. The wheel arch trims are sealed into place to prevent water ingress and eradicating the possibility of a reoccurance. The van has been lowered 50mm. Mudflaps and siderunners also added.
The paintwork can best be described as patchy and dull in areas (but perfectly servicable) and, obviously, it has acquired a few minor knocks over the years. I was actually going to vinyl wrap it as the last job. The window trim was also to be finished at this time. There is a rough patch on the paintwork where I didn’t quite seal the new window on the offside when I installed it and rain got into the bottom right corner, lifting a small section of the paint. This has now been cleaned up, treated and resealed. All is good again and ready to be rubbed down for a respray/wrapping.
There is some fogging in the windscreen, has not got any worse in the time I have owned the van. There is a bent sill on the offside (a common T4 mishap) where the previous owner didn't use the jacking point. This has been checked and is solid with no corrosion. This, along with all the sills, has been coated to protect it. With the side runners you cannot really notice it. The side step, a common area for a T4 corrision, is absolutely solid and has been protected.

The original indicator lenses have been replaced by clear ones. There were a couple of chips in the bonnet, which had not rusted, these have been treated and touched up. The bra bonnet has been added to prevent this problem from occurring rather than covering one up.

Habitation Modifications
Normally when you buy a camper van the interior is either 'worn' or coming to the end of its useful life, not so in ths case. The walls are insulated (thermal and acoustic) and ply lined, covered with Mega Van Mats anthracite carpet/grey acoustic headlining. Fitted with a retro poptop roof (front window and two side mesh vents) and a Fiamma roof vent. Windows and curtains fitted all round. Vinyl covered rock-and-roll bed with two seatbelts and large storage drawers front and rear.
2-compartment wardrobe fitted with shelves, the internal one fitted with a tambour door. The real wood work surface is fitted with a SMEV 9722 sink and hob combination. There are two cupboards underneath fitted with tambour doors. The smaller cupboard houses the gas locker (complete with full gas cylinder) and water tank with a shelf above. The larger cupboard is fitted with a full length shelf.
A folding work surface sits over the buddy box. There is a connection point with external aerial for the Freeview TV also included in the auction along with a remote power source and connection for a USB device such as a Firestick plus a WiFi hub.

Electrics
| 220 amp hour leisure battery with split charge relay and EHU (10m hookup cable included, hookup through the rear reflector housing).
| | 12 point 12V fuse board with additional high drain outlet.

The van is 240V earthed, many conversions (incorrectly) omit this. Although the leisure battery doesn't vent when charging it is housed in a butyl sealed box just to be on the safe side. This is double vented to the exterior with a top scavenger. The battery is bolted into position to the bulkhead to prevent any movement in an accident.

Cab
Not a lot has been done in here except to tidy it up a bit and the doors and roof lined with thermal and acoustic insulation. Everything works as it should. The radio has been changed for one with Bluetooth and USB connectivity and the gear lever extended. The bench seat folds providing a useful storage area and there is storage space under both seats.

Also included...
The auction also includes a Khyam awning/sunroom (attached via C rail). Can be used just as the awning or with 1, 2 or 3 walls. As anybody who knows the South Wales coast in October will testify, the wind can certainly blow and I think the image gets this across. The wind was like this all week with big gusts as well as the inevitable heavy rain (well it is Wales). I was really was impressed with the Khyam, could not fault it in any single way.

There is also a Vango Faros II Air Low drive-away awning including the universal carpet and the footprint groundsheet to protect the sewn in groundsheet on hard ground. This also includes the pump to inflate and deflate the awning. At Brean, this awning stood up to a storm with winds over 60mph without any issues. Also included in the auction are the original steel wheels, which I was going to have powder coated, a full outdoor Kampa cover with zipped panels to access the sliding and both front doors and a Halfords 12V 24l cool box.
